Behind the Scenes: How Toolrealm Created the Mobile Flux Personal Finance Platform

Vincint Coetzer founder and creative director at Toolrealm, explains, “Flux isn’t just another mobile app – I wanted to design something that resonates with a personal brand.” The brand’s flexible design and clean aesthetic immediately captivated, as Coetzer opted for a more subtle approach to color that lent an air of sophistication.

Toolrealm’s brand design takes a refreshingly retro turn, embracing bold and irresistible serif fonts that elevate the entire experience. This particular project saw Vincint harness the power of these timeless typographic elements to craft a truly distinctive identity.
Following a renewed strategic vision from Coetzer, the updated Flux look – complete with a revamped website and merchandise – is tailored to complement the brand’s extensive library and social media presence. Within the crowded production landscape, Flux now stands out with a more captivating personality. As Coetzer reveals, “We wanted it to feel in line with exciting brands like Chariot, but with a slightly more bespoke, less template-driven feel.”
The refreshed wordmark retains Flux’s signature liquified title, set in the incredible Ethnic serif. “I was looking for something simple with tall, narrow characters in a relatively hefty weight that gave the correct impact,” Coetzer explains, “and would also work harmoniously across the entire brand identity.”
“We didn’t customize it, as we wanted a system the client could use themselves,” adds Coetzer, “but that gave that customizable approach and bespoke look without the need for designers every time.”
